Apostles Lutheran Preschool strives to provide quality early childhood education in a safe environment by

+ daily sharing Bible lessons to stimulate spiritual growth,

+ providing a theme based curriculum to assist academic growth,

+ offering opportunities for gross motor development for their physical growth, and

+ encouraging creative play with other children in order to develop emotional growth.

April showers bring May flowers can be heard in the preschool classroom this month. We planted flowers and are tending to them and watching them grow. We began the month by learning and acting out nursery rhymes for the first two weeks. The children enjoyed learning “Little Miss Muffet” and making the spiders so they could practice at home. We also made clocks for “Hickory Dickory Dock” and made candlesticks for “Jack be Nimble”. The favorite thing we made was the Humpty Dumpty eggs as we enjoyed those for snacks.

Our next theme is “Western Week”. The children will see and learn about cowboy gear. They will also have a saddle to ride and a horse to rock on. We conclude the week with a rodeo complete with barrel racing, pony roping, horse shoe tossing, and horse races. Of course we will have to have a bit of a hoedown and do some cowboy dancing and finish by having sloppy joes for snacks.

We will finish the month by studying insects. The ants are already here and digging tunnels. We will also grow caterpillars and watch as they turn into butterflies. The children will have the opportunity to make bug eye glasses, ants and dragonflies.

We will be enjoying an evening of food, fellowship and fun on Arbor Night. Pastor will give a children’s service, the children will sing, and then we will plant flowers for the children to take home. We will enjoy snacks of dirt cakes and juice.

The Bible lessons for this month have been following Jesus’ time on earth after His resurrection. We see how He teaches Thomas to believe and how He ascends into heaven. We now see how He keeps His promise to send the Holy Spirit to help them in the work of spreading the good news of Jesus. We will also learn that it is not easy work as we hear the story of Stephen.

It is hard to believe that there is only one month left of school. We still have some openings and would be happy to visit with any prospective families if you would send them our way. We hope that you can celebrate Graduation with us Thursday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m. Thank you to everyone for your help and encouragement with the preschool and keep us in your prayers.

APOSTLES SOCCER CAMP 2008 It is time to announce Apostles’ Soccer Camp 2008 on June 23-27 at Millice Park located at the corner of 29th St. W and Central Ave. This camp will be held Monday through Friday, from 1-4 pm. for children ages 4-13. We will be taking applications on a first-come, first-serve basis. The soccer camp is going to be a real soccer camp in which we learn, practice and improve our individual skills, teamwork, and knowledge of the game of soccer. All of the participants will be given REAL soccer jerseys and quality water bottles to use during camp to keep as souvenirs of their experience.

This camp serves as a sort of vacation Bible school as well. Besides helping them pass and dribble better, we plan on sharing with them the amazing way that God showed his love to us by sending Jesus to give us real life! The cost will be $25 for the first child and $15 for each brother or sister. If you are interested in this camp, you can pick up an application located on the publications wall in the narthex. Don’t delay! The deadline for applications is May 23! The sooner the better so we can get their shirt sizes for the jerseys! Talk with Pastor Zimpelmann if you have any further questions.

PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION The preschool is taking registration for the 2008-09 school year. If you have a child that is 3 to 4 years of age by September 10 and would like them to join the preschool, please see Pastor Bickelhaupt or Lynette Scott for an enrollment form.

We're looking to compile a list of names and phone numbers of people from the congregation who enjoy babysitting and would be interested in being on call for any upcoming church events or meetings that might require childcare.
